Ignorant People Should Not Breed

I really don’t like to use my site as a soap box for subjects other than my life experiences while I was homeless, but I need to vent about the pure ignorance of some people who dare call themselves intellectuals. I am an Amazon Prime movie junkie and I have recently finished watching the Showtime series Homeland. I was drawn into the heavy drama and I’ve even caught myself rooting for certain characters, or cursing the bad guys, however, I am fully aware that this Showtime series is only a cable TV drama that has highjacked “real” life in order to make money and I am ok with that but what really upsets me is when ignorant people jump on the bandwagon of hate without knowing or even understanding the facts. Let me explain my total irritation.

After I finished the last episode of season five of Homeland, I was so wrapped up in this series and the fact that cable television series’ of this kind always leave you hanging and wanting more, so naturally, I had to run a Google search to see if Showtime was continuing the series or had simply dropped it as many long-running cable TV series shows eventually do. I was so very much relieved to discover that Showtime has in fact extended the Homeland series for at least two more seasons, however, just below the Google search results for Showtime’s Homeland was a very enticing link heading about the homeland series, and being an information junkie as well I clicked the link only to discover a poorly written article about the Homeland series which was only marketing fodder for a book surrounding the middle east conflict and America’s involvement. Before I continue I am not going to take any political or religious position about the cable tv show Homeland, the actual website or the amateur marketing skills of the books author, nor will I voice any opinion on those terrible “real” events as this is not the forum for that. All I will say using the “scare card” to incite people fears as a ploy to sell copies of a book is lowly and repugnant!

After all, you must realize that cable television has only one “real” job which is to develop programming that will entice its viewers while turning a profit, otherwise no one would continue to watch their favorite TV show and eventually Showtime and other television stations would go broke. Knowing this fact makes it obvious that unless you are clearly informed that what you are watching is 100% factual or true, then you are merely watching fiction. Sadly in Homeland’s case Showtime simply “highjacked” real world events putting a spin on them to make their program exciting and profitable, but any writer who incites fear and sensationalism in order sell books is downright despicable, and what is even worse are myriad of people who take that books marketing propaganda as grounds to voice their opinion about real-life tragedies based only on a contrived cable tv show and this reinforces my anger and my opinion that “Ignorant people should not breed!”

I won’t comment on how some book publisher could approve such a disgusting marketing approach, but I am dearly grateful I do not have such a publisher and would never stoop so low as to capitalize on the tragic pain and suffering of human beings in order to sell copies of what I am guessing is a poorly written book to begin with as the book in question was published in 2008 and has dismal sales.
