Common Sense Revisited

By Rob Fleming

If it wasn’t for Thomas Paine’s love of America or the fact that long before his perfect ideal as a loyal British subject was shattered, Thomas Paine would have never written “Common Sense”, and on January 9th, 1776 publishing this simply crafted body of work anonymously as “an Englishman”. Use this link for 100% free access to Thomas Paine’s Historical document here.

This written body of work by an Englishman brings into question two important yet mostly overlooked ideas:

  1. Were these mentioned “Englishman” native citizens who came over from their motherland to oversee the establishment of this new world as a sovereign seedling of Great Britain, or newly bred and raised American’s whom under British rule were forced to adopt the laws of the land as passed down from “Father England” and taken as the subservient slave rather than cherished fruit of thou loins.
  2. If this new concept of “Common Sense” were to be put into practice, then at what means would our newly entrusted leaders go to in an effort to assure these new rulings would become the laws of which American’s would truly be free equality and fairly. If war is unavoidable would America take the task whole heatedly or simply bow and bend in defeat?

While both of those proposed questions need never be answered as America Called forth its citizens and fought for the right of free men everywhere to grow and think in a free society, otherwise, history as we know it would be something far different than the life we see in America!

That innocently titled pamphlet of which has not only gained substantial notoriety & popularity in its clear and honest approach, but now has called into question every belief currently in practice by the residents of the thirteen original colonies called for them to set aside all things of what they once considered good and proper in favor of a new position which advocated independence from England, which in reality meant leaving King Richard III, and the now waning might of a once fierce ruler of Great Britain. While the newly founding of the United States of America would require many battles of both life and liberty, only through endless sacrifice would its mighty outcome would soon allow this independence to include every person as the mighty creator did create each soul to be happy and live free while striving for the separation of all matters of the church could at any moment interfere with the impartially and concern for fairness in justice and equally of all matters and policy of state.

At first inception, it was very difficult to make the facts of the position that in other to achieve the perfect balance of all matters of state and the personal need for spiritual adherence were items of fact that could never mingle otherwise the same Monarchy which still rules Great Britain today would infect every possibility outlined in our U.S. Constitution and the bill of Rights would be nothing more than well-written pretty looking document that only hold a mock real value and importance!

What does this mean in clear & simple language & Why should I care?

Without any fancy preamble or confusing dialog, plainly the “gist” of Common Sense is that America must become completely and entirely independent from Britain, at any cost, or we would surely fall deeper under the oppressing grasp of Britain’s polluted hold upon the thirteen colonies.

There was no route around these immutable known facts, and while it was clear that war would soon replace the dull air of confusion amongst both sides of this perilous fight for freedom or further continued slavery of idea, belief, and conscience thought. At what point would enough finally become enough pain and suffering, so that men of the plow, field, and farmhouse would once more be able to voice their opinion about public matters and not be held in contempt simply because it was in contrast to the leader of Government.

While the full reality of the word “Freedom” would take many more years to fully realize, it is clear that without the full break from the oppressive rule of Britain would there even be such a free world as the United States of America in the first place, and the presumption of all man’s freedom nothing but a whimsical idea on the closed lips of some fearful & oppressed citizen from the British States of England.

What this means to all of us common people, no matter where we live or how we make our living. We all have a voice and clear right to raise our voices as to question the supposed leadership of our government and if there was ever a time to do so, that time would be now this very moment!

What can I do to ensure my voice and thoughts are heard?

As ever basic challenge to the governmental leaders will undoubtedly continue on for as long as there are growing concerns from one citizen to another, in order to be taken seriously we must conduct ourselves at all times as rational men and women with a serious desire to have our needs communicated to the President of the United States as well as to our Senators and Congressmen to make clear our requests to be heard. Sadly, as with all things that begin and end upon the great American capital, it is the complicated mass of required paperwork where it all begins. The one tool which is more powerful over all others is the vote!

How to become part of the solution

  • Join & participate in worthy groups to spread the message to the masses
  • Make your needs clear to your elected leaders
  • Use your vote to reinforce your message
  • Speak up & share with those around you
  • Don’t let perceived racial bias’s block the progress intended for everyone

As corruption of the very freedom that made America great in the beginning is the very tool that will be leveraged against those in true and desperate needs. The creation of false and exaggerated racial tensions will only incite real conflict at home and give the home base advantage to the very corrupt system those in the streets are fighting. The common ploy of our government is to disrupt the sharing of ideas and work by inciting conflict that will strip way our unity and power as a unified group. We must put aside all petty differences in choice of the greater good, which is to establish the equal treatment of all men, women, and children no matter how they look or the color of their skin because first and foremost we are American’s, and then whatever race or creed we are born out of second. This is the only required absolute we must agree on fully in order to succeed as American’s seeking our God given right to freedom & equality!

The time to act is now

While many of us are either unwilling or unprepared to help ensure that all men, women, and children will be protected in this turbulent struggle for our lost freedom, but at what cost will most of us give up, stop doing our part, or simply let the lie being told to use take over reasonably thought and consideration! Forget racial or ethnic borders or boundaries, as we entered this great land and accepted the peace, refuge, and opportunity, we became American’s first and to put America anywhere other than at the top and number one is the failure to fight for all of those who sacrificed everything they had in 1776, and all of the years afterward. We’re born of strong and fearless stock & our just freedom is a badge of constant proof of these hard-won liberties!
